Jackson Solem may not have reached the quarterfinals of the 2017 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Flint Hills National Golf Club in Kansas, but he definitely made an impact.

Solem, a recent Longmont Christian grad who played his prep golf for Silver Creek, saw his run end after falling to Aman Gupta of Charlotte, N.C., 2 and 1 in match play on Thursday.

Solem started the second day of match play on fire, hitting an eagle on the par 4 third hole and following that up with a birdie at No. 5 to go 2-up on the 12th-seeded Gupta. But Solem, who was seeded 44th, had a stretch where he surrendered four straight holes to Gupta to go 2-down.

Although Solem was able to birdie 13 to get one back, Gupta retook a two-hole lead a short time later and held on to advance.

Solem, who won the 2015 Class 4A state championship and was runner-up last year, will play college golf at the University of Denver.
