Jackson Solem, a recent graduate of Longmont Christian High who played prep golf for Silver Creek, won his first round of match play Wednesday at the 2017 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at the par-71, 7,049-yard Flint Hills National Golf Club in Kansas.

Solem, the 2015 Class 4A Colorado state champion and BoCoPreps.com Player of the Year, knocked off Tampa's Jackson Suber 5 and 3 and will advance to Thursday's round of 32.

Solem, the 44th seed, found himself in a one-hole deficit after double-bogeying the fifth hole, but quickly evened things up on six with a par while Suber, the 21st seed, bogeyed.

Solem closed out Suber by getting birdies on five of the last seven holes they played, ending it on the par-5 15th.

Next up for Solem is 12th seeded Aman Gupta of Charlotte, N.C., who won 2 and 1 over No. 53 James Song of Canada. The duo is scheduled to tee off at 7:10 a.m. on Thursday.
