After the first snow cancellations of the spring on Monday, this week should be another exciting one, weather permitting. Here's a look at some of the more interesting contests coming up in the BoCoPreps.com area.
Berthoud at Mead, Thursday, 4 p.m.
Off to a hot start in 2018, the Mavericks are 5-0 and are ranked ninth in Class 4A by the CHSAANow.com poll. Junior Tanner Leise is battling .786 and sophomore Brady Veltien leads the Mavericks with 13 RBIs.
Fruita Monument at Boulder, Saturday, 11 a.m.
Already at 2-0 this spring, the Panthers hope to remain unbeaten with a win against Fruita Monument on Saturday. Sophomore Dorsey Chatham has been as-advertised so far, boasting an .800 batting average with two extra-base hits and Jackson Dinkel has yet to allow a run while striking out nine over four innings on the mound.
Rocky Mountain Invite, Thursday, 10 a.m.
Broomfield, Fairview and Legacy will be playing. Fairview's Kelsey Webster should be in the hunt, as should Broomfield's Megan Vogt, who transferred from Holy Family this season.
Bear Creek at Jefferson Academy, Wednesday, 6 p.m.
The Jaguars have a 2-1 record so far this spring and their only loss came in the season opener against No. 1-ranked Dawson. This game against a 1-2 Bear Creek team offers the opportunity for the Jaguars to match last season's win total already in March.
Centaurus at Cheyenne Mountain, Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.
The Centaurus girls is off to a 4-0 start and will look to make it five wins in their first five games when they hit the road against Cheyenne Mountain (1-2) on Tuesday. Senior Delaney Pratt leads the Warriors with 18 points and Campbell Breithaupt has a team-high six assists.
Windsor at Silver Creek, Tuesday, 4 p.m.
This one pits No. 1 Windsor (1-0) against No. 6 Silver Creek (4-0) in an early-season showdown between unbeaten top-10 teams. Led by sophomore Alexa Karsel's six goals, the Silver Creek girls have outscored their first four opponents 21-1.
Broomfield at Silver Creek, Tuesday, 3:30 p.m.
An exciting local dual between BoCoPreps.com area teams, watch for Broomfield's Harrison Lierz in multiple events at this one. Lierz was CHSAA 5A All-State Second Team as a freshman last season.
Longmont at Silver Creek, Tuesday, 3:30 p.m.
Longmont sent a bunch of doubles players to the state tournament in Pueblo last season and Silver Creek didn't. But while the Trojans return several players with state experience, the Raptors are confident in their young core to be competitive.
Track & field
