The first week of the season was a wild one and this week's pre-holiday action figures to be just as entertaining with some large early-season events and several local rivalries on deck in multiple sports.
Here's a look at a few of the more highly-anticipated events coming up in the BoCoPreps.com area.
Centaurus at Longmont, Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.
The Longmont Trojans (2-1) were a buzzer beater by the No. 1 team in Class 4A away from escaping the first week of the season undefeated. The Centaurus Warriors (3-2) are also off to a good start after winning just four games last season.
Holy Family at Broomfield, Saturday, 6 p.m.
The Broomfield boys (3-1) have hit the ground running this season, and have only lost one game at the hands of 5A No. 2-ranked Denver East. Similarly, the Holy Family Tigers (3-1) are ranked fifth in 4A and have only lost to then-No. 1 Golden.
Holy Family at Broomfield, Saturday, 4:30 p.m.
In the other half of this Broomfield-area rivalry twin bill, the Holy Family girls (3-1) are also ranked No. 5 in 4A. The Eagles (2-4) have played a challenging schedule but that hasn't stopped junior Steph Peterson from averaging 20.2 points a game.
Fossil Ridge at Fairview, Tuesday, 4 p.m.
This one is an early-season dual between the two 5A teams favored to finish first and second, respectively, in Fossil Ridge and Fairview.
Colorado Coaches Invitational, Saturday, 8:30 a.m.
Boulder, Fairview, Legacy and Skyline will all enter the fray in what is annually one of the biggest and most competitive meets of the season.
Monarch at Dakota Ridge, Saturday, 6:15 p.m.
The Monarch Coyotes (5-0) are still undefeated and so far appear primed for their title defense. Through five games this season, the Coyotes have allowed just one goal.
Fairview at Boulder, Tuesday, 7 p.m.
Another local rivalry that always brings the best out of both teams, both of these teams are young but whenever Boulder and Fairview get together it takes the competition to the next level.
Reno Tournament of Champions, Friday and Saturday, TBA
Two of the top teams in the BoCoPreps.com area, Broomfield and Legacy will hit the road for this one. Both the Eagles and the Lightning have the potential to finish top 10 in 5A and the Reno Tournament of Champions will test the limits of both.
