Silver Creek graduate Valarie Allman will get a chance to compete against the nation's best this weekend.

A junior thrower for the Stanford track and field program, Allman will take part in the discus competition at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Ore. The preliminary rounds begin Friday afternoon with the finals scheduled for Saturday.

A two-time Class 4A state champion at Silver Creek, Allman placed fifth at the NCAA West Preliminaries with a throw of 182 feet, nine inches. One year after becoming the first Stanford athlete to win a conference crown in the discus, Allman defended her Pac-12 championship in May.

Allman broke an 18-year old Colorado state discus record as a junior at Silver Creek, ultimately breaking her own mark as a senior with a toss of 183-3.
