Previously mired in a six-game losing streak, the Skyline Falcons summer baseball team exploded back into the win column on Tuesday.

On the hottest day of the year, the Falcons swept a doubleheader with Greeley West, winning 10-6 in Game 1 and 10-8 in Game 2. Tuesday's pair of wins lifted the Falcons back up to the .500 mark.

"I thought we swung the sticks really well today," Falcons outfielder Nate Higgins said. "We had a lot of extra-base hits and aggressive base running, taking extra bases and getting timely hits. From the first inning of the first game, we were hot. We were swinging it. It's good to get some momentum going heading into these league games."

After Tuesday's wins, the Falcons (7-7) are now 2-0 in Legion A High School Northern League play.

In Game 1, the Falcons overcame an early 3-0 deficit and four lead hanged to claim the victory. Daniel Terao singled to score Peter Nieuwlandt during a four-run fifth inning that broke a 6-6 tie and gave the Falcons the lead for good. In Game 2, the Falcons led 10-1 by the end of the third inning and made the lead hold up despite walking seven batters and allowing Greeley West to hang around.

"We're a good team and we're playing well," Falcons head coach Travis Schagel said. "We've just got to learn how to be aggressive when we're up in the game and shut teams down. We've been getting a lead and getting a little too comfortable

On the day, Higgins went 5-7 with five RBIs at the plate and pitched a scoreless seventh inning to close out Game 2. As a team, the Falcons totaled 24 hits and stole five bases on their way to scoring double digit runs in each game.

"We put up 10 both games, so that's great," Schlagel said. "We played in a tournament last weekend and faced some really good pitching that forced us to make some adjustments and work the count in our favor. We did that again today. We got ourselves in good counts, we didn't over-swing and guys all just did their job. We weren't over-swinging. We were thinking a lot more and that showed.

"We started doing this in the spring but we're really continuing our focus on controlling what we can control, being good teammates and focusing on our goals. I think we'll continue to do that as the summer goes on."
