LONGMONT — Anthony Kasper did a little bit of everything - playing tailback, receiver or even quarterback - during his prep career for the Silver Creek football team.

That versatility earned the 5-foot-11 offensive threat the opportunity to continue his football career at the collegiate level. On Wednesday, he signed his national letter of intent to play at Western State Colorado University next season.

"It's a great match," Silver Creek head football coach Mike Apodaca said. "We've had a longstanding relationship with their coaches and it's a good fit for Anthony academically. So, if he puts in the work, Anthony should do really well there."

Apodaca's early expectation is that Kasper, who accumulated 3,351 yards rushing and 807 yards receiving in his four years at Silver Creek, will roster as a slot receiver and occasionally see time in the backfield at Western State.

Kasper joins a 2016 Silver Creek recruiting class that includes Division-I signee Austin Wood, a right-handed pitcher who signed with Furman University in Greenville, S.C., during the last signing period. Also in the fall, Erin Sargent signed with the University of Wyoming women's golf in the fall and Jordan Carter signed with Fort Lewis women's basketball.

Also signing on Wednesday, four other Raptors will join Kasper in the Division-II ranks, including a trio of girls soccer players. Lexi Dageenakis (University of Bridgeport), Katy Foster (Augustana University) and Bayly Herman (Fort Hays State University) all signed national letters intent on national signing day. Softball player Sheyann Ludwig signed with Division-II Chadron State College.

Jenna Latsko signed to swim for the John Carroll University women's swim team, while Sam Willett signed to swim for the Claremont McKenna College men's team. Cason Winn signed to play baseball for Northeastern Junior College.

Adding eight recruits to this year's nine-signee Silver Creek class, athletic director Marty Tonjes said this year's group truly represents the rewards that come from hard work and perseverance.

"I'm excited for them," Tonjes said. "I look forward to this day every season that we do it. We kind of make a big deal out of it because it really shows how hard they've worked and their dedication to their sports. Especially this class, it really shows their hard work from a young age. Many of these kids were varsity athletes as freshmen because they had to step up and fill the shoes of graduated seniors right away."
