Boulder girls basketball player Maddie Gates committed recently to play basketball next season at NCAA Division-III Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I.

Gates, a four-year varsity contributor for the Panthers, was a starter and key player for the 2012-13 squad that went 14-11 and reached the second round of the state playoffs.



A pair of Erie Tigers signed national letters of intent on Wednesday.

Softball standout Claire Nibbe, who hit .377 with 18 extra-base hits for the Tigers' state semifinal squad last fall, signed with Division-II University of Colorado Colorado Springs in a ceremony at the school Wednesday.

Erie football player Tim Bush, meanwhile, signed to play at Kansas Wesleyan in Salina.
