LONGMONT -- Longmont was prepared for a better effort from visiting Silver Creek this time. Heck, it was virtually a given that the Raptors would show some pride Friday night after last month's debacle.

They absolutely did, but it didn't change the bottom line.

Longmont started fast, weathered a few Silver Creek bursts and ended the regular season with a 54-42 home win in the Class 4A Northern League matchup.

"We showed them that we're still here to play, that we're never going to let down," said junior Austin Kemp, who paced Longmont with 15 points. "We're always going to play our hardest, especially on our senior night."

The No. 10 Trojans (18-5, 10-4) rocketed out to 26-11 lead after the first quarter and it appeared another rout might be unfolding. But Silver Creek remained in striking distance with seven 3-pointers and even was within single digits late in the fourth quarter.

It sure beat the Jan. 29 meeting, when the Raptors trailed 36-8 at the break en route to a 31-point loss.

"There's no comparison between this game and last game," Silver Creek senior Luke Goforth said. "Last game, we showed up completely flat and we didn't know what we wanted to do. This time, we showed up fired up and we played a hell of a game."

It helped that Silver Creek (11-12, 5-9) had senior guard Trey Fleming this time. He missed the last meeting for what was termed "an administrative decision." He drilled three 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 13 points.

Longmont also received a standout performance in the post from Marcus Johnson, one of three Trojans seniors, who scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Alaniz helped salt away the game by making six consecutive free throws in the waning moments.

The Trojans figure to get a decent postseason seed when the brackets are unveiled Sunday.

"I'm feeling good," Kemp said. "We should make a good run in the playoffs."

Silver Creek also will be among the 48-team bracket, but the Raptors likely will be playing from the bottom, looking to pull some upsets along the way.

"Going forward, I'm feeling good," said Goforth, who sported a creative mohawk. "These last four or five games, we've started to play within ourselves and we've come together as a team."
