When Amanda Ochoa fell to the hardwood Friday night at Skyline, it was bad news for the Erie girls basketball team. Without their leading scorer and emotional leader, the Tigers fell 49-45 and had a five-game winning streak snapped.

More significantly, it might leave a permanent mark.

Ochoa departed after enduring the injury in the second quarter, and quickly fled to receive seven stitches. She was a good enough sport to tweet a photo and allow us to use it. The injury occurred when she was scrambling for a loose ball near the paint.

"I went for the ball, and I don't remember which player, but when I went to pull my head up, she landed on me," Ochoa said.

Erie's Piper Zeier also was injured in the game, nearly in the precise spot on the floor of Ochoa's injury. Zeier left the game and, according to Tigers coach Noel Potter, was being treated for concussion-like symptoms.
