LONGMONT -- The Mead boys basketball team knew Silver Creek would be tough, so the Mavericks made sure to be tougher at home on Saturday night.

The undersized Mavericks out-rebounded the visiting Raptors 35-20 and forced 21 turnovers to win 49-40.

Mavericks 6-foot-4 senior forward Ryan Lozinski registered his fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. After beating Skyline on Friday, the win netted the Mavericks their second win in as many days against a cross-town opponent and their third straight win overall.

"I felt good. I was getting my shots and my teammates really helped me out by getting good passes in," said Lozinski, who is averaging 17.8 points per game. "They executed really well, too, so that helped a lot.

"We had free throws made at the very end and some clutch shots from Aaron Cheung. We just executed. We got boards and everything."

Cheung scored seven of his 13 points in the fourth quarter and went 6 for 6 at the free-throw line. It was another good performance for the junior guard after he scored 25 points to lead the Mavericks to a 65-61 win over Skyline the night before.

"We knew they were gonna be a really physical team and they were gonna push us," said Cheung, who also had six steals. "We handled that pressure and the extended zone they were playing. We're used to playing teams bigger than us and we've learned to use our quickness and we have a lot of people who can step up in other ways."

Spreading the ball around, the Mavericks also got seven points each from Griffin Nelson and Taylor Desch.

Raptors junior guard Josh Tarin led his team with 10 points, including seven in the second quarter. He made shots to give the Raptors (6-2) brief leads in the both the second and third quarters.

But the Mavericks outscored the Raptors 10-5 in the first quarter and 15-9 in the third.

"They started out-rebounding us early on," Tarin said. "They owned us on the boards. Towards the end, we started waking up and putting on more defensive pressure. They played hard and needed to play harder on the boards. Turnovers were a key part, too. We had a lot of turnovers at the end."

Raptors guard Trey Fleming also scored 10 points in the loss.

The Raptors will be back in action when they host Northern Conference opponent Centaurus on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday, the Mavericks will face another local team in Frederick
