ETHAN MARKS, Monarch football -- Marks did most of the dirty work as the Coyotes recorded a 17-14 victory against Denver South to claim the Class 4A state championship. The junior running back rushed for 186 yards on 43 carries while providing a number of key plays for the Coyotes. Marks scored the go-ahead touchdown with a 3-yard plunge with 33 seconds remaining in the first half. Late in the fourth quarter, with Monarch clinging to a three-point lead, Marks converted a fourth-and-one with a 6-yard run that sealed the Coyotes' first football state championship in 10 years.
HALEY ROWLEY, Boulder swimming -- The Panthers' standout began her sophomore season with a stellar performance at the Fairview Invitational. Rowley took first in a pair of individual events, winning the 100 butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 1.17 seconds and adding the title in the 100 backstroke with a winning mark of 1:01.11. Rowley also helped the Panthers win the 400 medley relay, swimming the opening leg as the Panthers posted a winning time of 4:33.62.
