LONGMONT -- The Longmont Christian boys basketball team will be faster than many of it opponents this season. But it won't be bigger.

The Warriors were bigger than rival Faith Baptist on Friday and they took advantage of it for a 66-46 win.

"This is one of the only teams of the year we're going to match up well, size-wised, against," senior Caleb Flowers said. "We wanted to get it done off the glass and take care of business."

Crashing the boards with rigor, Flowers led the Warriors with 20 points. Dylan Wehrli scored 14 on seven layups. Josiah Bolyard and freshman Cade Martin each added nine.

The Warriors stretched a 28-18 halftime lead into as much as a 24-point advantage in the second half. They also took back top-dog status in the rivalry, which the Pioneers held after defeating the Warriors last season.

"Last year these guys beat us and that's been a chip on our shoulder so this was a big win for us," Wehrli said.

Anthony Pavlov led the Pioneers with 14 points after his brother Adrian Pavlov (10 points) fouled out early in the third quarter. After the game, Anthony Pavlov said the Pioneers are a young team with much to learn. But taking on a bigger team in the Warriors was a good early-season lesson.

"About 90 percent of the team is freshman so we just got started and don't know quite what's going on," Pavlov said. "I think in the future we can manage."
