When the Class 4A and 3A playoff brackets were released on Sunday, one local team on the bubble got its wish and another found out it would be staying home.
Entering the final week of the season 17th in the 3A wild card points, Erie (7-3) was among the handful of Colorado teams unsure about its postseason potential. But a 37-20 win over Centaurus on Friday night proved enough for the Tigers to jump into the bracket as the No. 16 seed.
The Tigers will face top-ranked Rifle (10-0) in the first round.
In 4A, however, Longmont (6-4) was left out of the 16-team bracket despite entering a 42-25 win over Greeley Central (2-8) as the 16th team in wildcard points. Loveland (6-4), which defeated the Trojans 34-27 on Oct. 26, rode a 23-20 win over Mountain View 6-4) to leapfrog the Trojans into the final playoff spot.
Also in 4A, fifth-seeded Monarch (9-1) will take on No. 12 Falcon (7-3) in the first round. Ninth-seeded Broomfield (8-2) will face No. 8 Windsor (9-1).
Opening the season as the state's top-ranked 3A team, the Frederick Warriors (8-2) enter the postseason as the third seed and will play No. 14 Eagle Valley (7-3) first.
Also in 3A, the Silver Creek Raptors (8-2) will enter the bracket as the No. 10 seed and will play Elizabeth (7-3). The Holy Family Tigers (8-2) took the No. 12 seed and will play fifth-seeded Pueblo East (8-2).
