A graduate of Silver Creek High School in 2015, Haille Weber has since been flourishing early in her career with the Western Nebraska Community College softball team.
Weber has plenty of people to thank for helping her achieve success at the collegiate level. One of them is teammate Christian Bobian, with whom Weber works closely as a part of the WNCC Cougars' system that pairs players together to help coach one another. Whatever Weber and Bobian are doing must be working.
Last week, Weber was named the OC Sports NJCAA Player of the Week.
"It's important that we as a team help each other out," Weber said. "I've had a great experience with my hitting partner, who has a lot to say about my swing. I'm a lefty and she's a left so we work great together. Whenever I'm in a slump, she helps me out of it and I do the same."
Weber, a freshman left fielder, batted .700 in four games last week against Luna Community College and Southeast Community College. She finished the four-game stretch with three triples, two home runs, 11 RBIs and eight runs scored. In Sunday's series finale against Southeast Community College, Weber tripled and hit a walk-off grand slam to pace an 11-0 win.
The Silver Creek alumnus didn't just have one good week, either.
In two games against Central Community College-Columbus on Tuesday, Weber went 6-for-10 with three doubles, a triple, two home runs and six RBIs. She came up just a single short of the cycle in the second game, finishing the contest with a double, triple and two home runs.
On the season, Weber boasts a .510 batting average with eight home runs, seven triples, and 15 doubles. She has scored 39 runs and leads the Cougars with 53 RBIs.
"I never expected to lead in RBIs or to do this well my freshman year," Weber said. "I'm definitely working a lot and maturing both on the field and in the classroom."
The Cougars, 26-6 on the season and are currently riding a 11-game win streak.
As a senior at Silver Creek, Weber batted .353 and drove in 19 runs.
